About The Recipe

The big day is finally here…Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

We are finally sharing a super delicious and easy homemade cranberry sauce! So, need to run out to the store today and buy a bunch of cans. This recipe is super easy, requires minimal ingredients, and tastes 10x better than store-bought.

I had never actually tried cranberry sauce until this year. I know, crazy! But, I’m a savory girl when it comes to Thanksgiving (well, except for our sweet potato casserole).

Cranberry sauce never really seemed like my thing growing up. The wiggles and jiggles after it came out of the can always kind of freaked me out. So, this year seemed like a great time to try and make some, as we’re getting together with some family and enjoying the holiday together!

Turns out, homemade cranberry sauce is SUPER simple and tastes ah-mazing! You definitely need to make this quick and easy sauce for dinner tonight. You won’t regret it!

Can I Purée This Sauce?

Absolutely! If you don’t want a sauce that has whole berries, feel free to pour this sauce in the blender and blend until desired smoothness. Just be sure to do it when it’s cooled down!

Fresh or Store-Bought Orange Juice?

With this recipe, since you need to zest an orange, I highly recommend using fresh squeezed orange juice! If you don’t have enough orange juice, you can use store-bought juice.

How To Store

If you’re making this ahead of time or just need to store after the holiday’s, no worries! Place this sauce in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months! You can refrigerate this sauce as well. Store in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for about 3-5 days.

Expert Tips

  • 3 cups of cranberries is one 12 ounce bag.
  • Cranberry sauce thickens as it cools, so keep this in mind when cooking! The times stated in the recipe card is for our preferences, but definitely cook to your liking. Stop cooking when the sauce is slightly thinner than you want it to be because it will thicken to the consistency you like.  Just be careful not to burn it!
  • Taste the sauce! Everyone has their preferences. We like ours a touch tart and lots of orange to give the cranberries a bit more punch and freshness, but if you like it sweeter, feel free to adjust!
  • This sauce can easily be made in advance and freezes well.
  • Make sure to save your leftovers! It works as a wonderful addition to breakfast or sweet desserts.
  • Overcooked the sauce? No problem! You can add a few Tablespoons of orange juice or water to loosen it.
