May-June Happenings
Spring is in full bloom and summer is definitely on it’s way! That means it’s time for our monthly chat.. but do you know what that also means?
We are officially SIX months into 2020. Say what?!
It feels like January was yesterday and six years ago.. all at the same time.
Phew.
But, we’ve been keeping busy and we have a lot of catch up on! From fun spring days to messy bakes to a big announcement. It’s all here. So, sit back, relax, and make sure you have your favorite cup of coffee or tea with you!
Getting Out of The House
If you will remember, the last time we talked, we had been under quarantine for two months. Well, I can officially say that we have begun to go to the grocery store again!
Who would’ve thought, out of everything, I would have missed the grocery store so much?
Well, it’s true. And, we aren’t going that often. Only when we really need it, but it’s been nice to get out of the house for a little bit and see other people.
The only problem is that I forget that people can’t see when I smile at them because of the mask. Hm.
It’s the thought that counts, right?
And, like always, we are still walking and hiking around our neighborhood as often as possible to keep in shape and to just get some fresh air. I even took my dog out for a walk for the first time since we moved here! I can firmly say that Lady does not like walking in the mountains. Eventually, I had to pick her up and carry her home.
Warm Weather!
One of the very first things we did when the weather started warming up is lay out a blanket in the yard and made ourselves a little picnic.
This also happened to be a day when we were in the mood for absolutely nothing and had to be a little creative with what we put out.
We actually make a quick veggie/potato roast that was SO good. I think I ate more of that than I did our homemade sourdough bread! And, if you know how much you love bread, then you’ll be just as surprised as I was.
Honestly, sometimes I actually think my soulmate might just be carbs.
Trying New Things
This month has definitely been the month of new things. Oh, and definitely revisiting/fixing old things, too! We have been having so much fun with our baked goods, but I think our neighbors might actually start fussing at us if we bring another slice of cake!
But, it’s been a lot of fun experimenting in the kitchen. Of course, not everything has turned out the first try.
We have literally made the same flatbread twice, but we keep forgetting simple things and keep having to remake it. Oops!
Exploring New Places
We have been extremely careful, but a few of my moms friends invited us to go to a winery they knew of in town. We all brought our own sandwiches and had a small picnic by the stream!
It was such a nice day, but I did get a little sunburnt..
It’s ironic. Ever since we moved to North Carolina from Florida, I have been getting sunburnt more often. How does that even make sense?!
Oh, well. I guess I’ll just keep covering myself head-to-toe with sunscreen before I go out for a hike!
Some New Lighting
Okay, this might sound a little silly, but this was a big deal for me! Ever since day one of this blog, I have used artificial light to take my pictures.
But, I saw some pictures on my instagram feed about shooting in natural light. I was more than beyond curious because it’s something I have never actually tried to do.
So, while we were waiting for some pastries to finish baking, I grabbed my favorite background and a handful of cherries. The photo above is the result!
I was super happy with how the photo came out. What do you think? Are you a fan of the hard contrasting shadows? Let me know!
Big Changes
Buh-duh-duuuuh! This is the big moment you’ve been waiting for. You guys have been so amazingly patient with us and so understanding with new updates to the blog! From Google updating requirements, to style and layout changes, and everything in between!
We have officially finished the rebrand.
But, I know a lot of you probably still have questions.
When we started this blog, it was a way to share old family recipes with friends and family. A little less than two years later, a lot has changed! My mom develops almost all of the recipes now, with my help sometimes. We still share a few of those old recipes, but things have definitely changed.
Since the beginning of 2020, my mom and I had been debating a rebrand. We felt like our previous blog name didn’t really fit us anymore. But, it’s a lot of work and we weren’t sure if it was the right step forward.
So, one week ago, we sat down and put a list together of pros and cons. The pros far outweighed the cons! From that moment on, BakersTable was born. It wasn’t even a long discussion! I think we came up with about three other possible names, but fell in love with this one.
What do you think about it? We chose it because my mom is an amazing baker and this is a place to find baked goods and other delicious recipes!
I hope you guys like the rebrand as much as we do! I feel like it’s a nice change to welcome in the second half of the year.
How have you been doing this last month? Anything exciting been going on? Let me know!
I’ll talk to you later!
