Notes

Substitutions:
  • You can substitute milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate for the bittersweet. It will change the flavor, sweetness, and intensity of the chocolate flavor depending on which you choose.
  • To make this recipe dairy-free, use non-dairy chocolate chips and butter and unsweetened plant-based milk.
  • This recipe can also be made vegan by using non-dairy butter, chocolate chips, unsweetened plant-based milk, and a vegan egg substitute like aquafaba.
  • This cake can be made gluten free by using a measure for measure (also known as 1:1 or cup for cup) gluten free flour.
Recipe Notes:
  • Check your ingredients – Make sure your baking powder and milk are fresh for the best results.
  • Ingredient Temperature - Make sure your ingredients are room temperature which is about 70℉/21℃.
  • Thicker ganache – Let the ganache cool slightly before glazing to ensure it's thick enough to cover and stay on the donuts.
  • Freezer-friendly – These donuts freeze well! Just reheat them and enjoy whenever the chocolate craving hits. Remember, the ganache will melt when you reheat the donuts.
A Quick Note on Flavor:
  • These donuts taste their best at room temperature or warmed slightly. Straight out of the oven, the chocolate hasn't had time to develop and they won't taste as chocolatey.
