Skillet Apple Crumble
Who doesn’t need a cast iron skillet filled with Apple Crumble? It’s sweet, warm, and absolutely delicious! It’s the perfect fall dessert but let’s be honest, who wants to wait that long to get a spoonful?
I paired this with Vanilla Ice Cream and it’s probably the best decision I ever made! This dessert probably lasted about two minutes. Once I finished taking photos for this post, everyone just had to get a bite!
Which, I’m not complaining because that means that this dessert is just as good as I’m hyping it up to be.
My mom actually got the idea to make this after we had SO much apple pie filling and nothing to do with it.
Yes, I know. We can make lots of apple pie. But c’mon!
Let’s be more adventurous.
So, this Skillet Apple Crumble was born. It’s a super simple dessert and it has no right being this good! The flavors are so complex that you would think we spent hours and hours making this, thinking it over.
It probably took us about 5 minutes to come up with the idea, another 5 to assemble it, and then we baked it for about 45 minutes.
All in all, around an hour.
I really love this dessert. It’s super easy and pretty quick to put together! Plus, it’s the perfect way to use up left over apple pie filling.
How to make apple crumble
This recipe is super simple and easy. The very first thing you need to do is get all your ingredients together and turn your oven on to 300 degrees.
Once you have everything together, you need to make the crumble. Use a pastry blender to evenly cut up the butter and fully incorporate the ingredients.
Now it’s time to top your apples! We decided about 3/4 cup crumble for covering a small cast iron skillet.
Now it’s time to cook it! Set the skillet in your preheated oven and bake for about 40-45 minutes or until it starts to bubble around the edges. Set out of the oven and let cool slightly before serving! Topping with ice cream is optional but definitely recommended.
Expert Tips:
- If you’re making the apple filling then I recommend using Granny Smith Apples. You can find more information on our Homemade Apple Pie Filling.
- This dessert can easily be converted to a single serving by using 6 oz. ramekins. Fill with about 1 cup apple pie filling and top with streusel. Bake for 40 minutes instead of 45.
- Make sure to preheat your oven to get the most accurate cook time.
So, whether you make the full recipe or scaling it down to a single serving, this recipe is sure to be a hit!
