About The Recipe

Is there anything better than when your favorite candies get a holiday makeover? Honestly! There’s nothing better, in my opinion. Especially when it comes to M&M’s! Yeah, okay…they technically taste the same, but let’s be real. Everything tastes better when it’s Christmas themed. Which is why we are sharing these super simple (and super delicious!) Christmas M&M Sugar Cookies with all of you!

For me, the holiday’s are synonymous with candy companies changing their marketing and packaging to Christmas themes. Seriously. One of my two favorite commercials as a kid was the Hershey’s Kisses performing We Wish You A Merry Christmas alongside the M&M’s discovering Santa exists (and Santa discovering they exist!).

On top of that, M&M’s are one of my absolute favorite candies. I am a serious chocoholic, honestly. So, when my mom and I were at the store, and found a very large back of red and green M&M’s, we knew what we had to do!

Though, developing this recipe wasn’t as easy as it first seemed. We have a sugar cookie recipe on the blog, but it’s more of a decorators cookie. Obviously, we didn’t want that for these. We wanted soft, chewy, and for it to just melt in your mouth.

So, we took our original sugar cookie recipe and made a few tweaks to ensure the softest, most delicious sugar cookie EVER!

Because, there is nothing more inviting than the smell of cookies in the oven and, after taking them out, enjoying them while they’re still slightly warm.

How To Make M&M Cookies

Step 1: Make The Dough

With an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and beat until combined.

Mix in the milk and vanilla.

Stir in the flour and baking powder.

Fold in the M&M’s.

Step 2: Portion The Dough and Bake

Use a 2 inch cookie scoop to portion dough onto prepared sheet pans. Flatten the dough slightly and bake at 350 degrees F for 12 minutes.

How To Get A Perfectly Round Cookie

The best way to achieve the perfect cookie is by using a cookie scoop, rolling the dough into a ball, and pressing it out into a circle before baking. If it’s still a little uneven, you can actually take a biscuit cutter (just slightly bigger than the cookie) and circle it around the cookie, being sure to hit the edges. This presses the cookie into a perfect circle!

Can I Use Different M&M’s or Add Other Candies?

Absolutely! The great thing about this recipe is that it is essentially a plain sugar cookie with M&M’s…which means you can add anything you want! From pretzels to other candies. You can even add a different kind of M&M!

How To Store

Once these cookies are baked and cooled, you can store these cookies in an air tight container and keep on the counter for about a week. You can also store them in a freezer safe bag and freeze for up to 2 months!

Expert Tips

  • Be sure to beat the butter and sugar until very pale and fluffy!
  • These cookies taste great while still slightly warm.
  • Check the expiration date on your baking powder.
  • When the egg, milk, and vanilla is added to the butter mixture, it may curdle. This is okay! Just keep beating until it comes back together and is light and fluffy about. This takes about 1-2 minutes on high speed of an electric mixer.
  • Use any color M&M’s you like!
