About The Recipe

I think we all can agree that some of the best memories from growing up come from making rice krispie treats with our mom or dad. It’s a staple part of back to school! Well, in my case, back to the dining room because I was home-schooled for most of my life.

But, nonetheless. The few memories I have of actually going to school, I almost always had a rice krispie treat in my lunch box. And, if you’ve been here for a while, you know that one of my favorite things growing up was a s’more. See where I’m going?

Well, now we have combined the best of both worlds to create the ultimate rice krispie treat!

Graham crackers and chocolate pieces make the ultimate addition to this sweet treat. Oh, and since these already have marshmallows in them… I highly recommend hitting it with a blow torch after their set. Then, it’s really like a s’more!

Goo-ey, chocolate-y, sweet, and oh so good. Especially if you use Homemade Vanilla Marshmallows. In our recipe, we actually have quite a bit of vanilla in them so, this recipe has the perfect hint of vanilla in every bite. If you use store-bought, add a splash of vanilla to give this treat a nice rounded out flavor!

And try adding a bit of melted chocolate chocolate on top. It’s not needed, but… everything is better with extra chocolate!

Instructions

Coat the casserole dish thoroughly with butter. Make sure this is excess butter, not the butter you need for the recipe. Set aside.

Combine butter and marshmallows in a large bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals until the butter and marshmallows are completely melted. If the butter isn’t melting fast enough, you may need to take the mixture out of the microwave and stir until the butter is thoroughly melted.

Add the chocolate pieces, graham crackers, and rice krispies. Mix.

Quickly transfer the mixture into the greased casserole and press down until level and flat. Set aside until set.

What Kind of Chocolate, Butter, and Marshmallows To Use

There are a few options here, but this is what we used and highly recommend.

  • Salted butter is a must. If you use unsalted, it would be way too sweet.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate is the best chocolate to use. You could also use bittersweet. Chocolate bars, chocolate chips, or chocolate pieces are all great for this recipe!
  • We used our Homemade Vanilla Marshmallows. They are definitely jumbo in size and I highly recommend using them. They add a delicious depth of vanilla to the rice krispie treats!

How To Store

You can store these in an airtight container and keep on the counter for about two or three days. They don’t last very long so make sure to share them around when you make them!
