Sourdough Bagels

These delicious and easy homemade Sourdough Bagels are so much better than anything yo can buy at the grocery store! Think your favorite plain bagel, but with the addition of sourdough to give it some wonderful flavor. These bagels are extra soft and chewy, just like a good bagel should be.

01 You can refrigerate the dough overnight for a more flavor!

02 If you're unsure if your bagels are proofed, you can do a water test!

03 Be careful to not over-work the dough.

04 Remember to cut these bagels before freezing!

In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine starter and water.


Add malt and mix.


Add flour and salt. Mix on low until combined. Knead until dough is smooth.


Proof at warm room temperature until increased by 25%, about 2 hours.


Turn dough out onto unfloured surface. Divide into 4 ounce pieces. Roll each piece of dough into a ball.


Shape into bagels. Cover and let proof about 1 hour.


Place bagels, 2 at a time, into boiling water. Cook one minute on each side.


Bake for 10-12 minutes, until light golden brown.
