Notes

Substitutions:
  • Frozen cranberries can be used instead of fresh.
  • If you would like, you can use apple pie spice in the filling and in the topping.
  • Any kind of baking apple can be used for this recipe!

Expert Tips:
  • 6 cups of sliced apples is about 4-5 large apples or about 2 pounds.
  • Make sure to use a baking apple for this recipe! Fuji, Granny Smith, or Honeycrisp work best for this pie.
  • You can use a homemade pie crust or store-bought.
  • Do NOT use instant oats for the crumble. Make sure you have rolled (also known as old fashioned) oats for this recipe.
  • If you're unsure the pie is done after baking, you can use an instant read thermometer. Insert in the middle and, if it's done, it should read about 175°F/79.
