About The Recipe
I will be completely honest. I had never tried eggnog until this year! It wasn’t ever a big thing in my house. On the days leading up to Christmas, we were always baking gingerbread cookies, nut cake, and cheese crackers.
Eggnog didn’t really come into the mix until this year! We were going through my great grandmother’s old cookbook and found a recipe for her eggnog.
According to my mom, she had the best ever eggnog recipe! It was always the one drink everyone wanted during the holiday’s, but I’ll be honest…the recipe in the cookbook was so confusing!
So, we decided to give it a little update.
Turns out, eggnog is actually delicious! Creamy, not too sweet, bourbon-y, and a touch of nutmeg to round out all those amazing flavors…
And, not to mention, it’s not only just a seriously delicious holiday drink. It’s the perfect drink to make so many things with!
From french toast to cookies, I think this eggnog might just be the ultimate holiday treat!
Equipment Needed
- Mixing Bowls
- Hand Mixer
- Rubber Spatula
Ingredients
- Egg Whites
- Egg Yolks
- Sugar
- Heavy Cream
- Whole Milk
- Bourbon
Instructions
In a medium bowl, beat together the egg yolks and 1/4 cup sugar until fluffy and pale in color. About 2-3 minutes.
Stir in the bourbon. Set aside.
In a large bowl with the whisk attachment, beat the egg whites to soft peaks. Add sugar and beat until stiff peaks, about 2 minutes. Set aside.
Beat heavy cream in a medium sized bowl until stiff peaks. About 1 minute.
Fold the whipped cream into the egg yolk mixture.
Add the egg yolk mixture to the egg whites and gently fold in.
Stir in the whole milk.
Store in the fridge or serve immediately! This recipe is better after it sits for a few days, but it can be drunk immediately. Just make sure to dust lightly with nutmeg!

How To Store
We love to keep eggnog in an air tight milk jug. The one thing you need to know is that this eggnog needs to be stirred (or in this case, shaken) frequently! Whipping the ingredients causes it to separate, so make sure to keep it shaken…or stirred!

- Make sure to serve this drink ice cold! It tastes so much better.
- This drink tastes better after sitting in the fridge for a few days.
- Stir often when storing! It will separate after sitting in the fridge.

- ⅜ cup sugar,, divided
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup bourbon
- Ground nutmeg, for serving
Instructions
- Beat egg yolks with 1/4 cup of the sugar until light and fluffy. Set aside.
- Beat egg whites to soft peaks. Slowly add remaining 1/8 cup sugar and beat to stiff peaks. Set aside.
- Beat cream to stiff peaks. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, fold egg yolk mixture into cream.
- Fold in egg whites.
- Stir in milk and bourbon.
- Place in covered container and refrigerate.
- Sprinkle with nutmeg before serving.
