About The Recipe

If you’re like me, apples are one of your favorite things about the Fall season. There’s just something about the supermarkets being stocked with a variety of fresh apples and the ability to go apple picking whenever you want… It’s one of the best times of year!

And, we are always looking for new and fun ways to use apples. This is by far the most fun and probably one of the most delicious creations we’ve made thus far!

You all seemed to love our Homemade Apple Pie recipe, so we’re basically making it into a fritter.

Delicious apple pie spice combined with a light and airy batter, fresh apple chunks, and a glaze that is roll-your-eyes-back good. I honestly think these fritters are my new favorite way to use up some leftover Honeycrisps!

But, the best part is that you can really use any apple that you like. Gala’s, granny smiths, whatever! If you have it, use it. These fritters will always be delicious.

Another added bonus is that they are totally dairy-free. We had some apple juice sitting around and one single thought came to mind… what if we use it instead of milk?

So, we did! And the results are absolutely incredible! Light, fluffy, and just an explosion of the best Autumn flavors in every single bite.

Ingredients

Peel, core, and chop the apples, Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, salt, and apple pie spice.

Add in the apple juice and eggs. Whisk until smooth.

Fold in the chopped apples.

Now, use a spoon and drop the batter carefully into a preheated 350 degree pot of oil. Let it cook for about 45 seconds before turning it over and letting the other side cook. The fritters should cook for no more than 1 1/2 minutes, each being golden brown. I also recommend not cooking more than five at a time!

As you take the fritters out of the hot oil, place them on a few pieces of paper towel to let them drain. Repeat this process until no more batter remains.

While the fritters finish draining and cool off, let’s make the glaze! Sift together the powdered sugar and apple pie spice into a medium sized bowl. Add in the apple juice and stir until smooth. The glaze will be very runny!

Once the fritters are thoroughly drained and cooled, dip each one into the glaze and let the glaze run off of it slightly before sitting it aside onto a plate. Repeat the process until all the fritters have been glazed.

Once the glaze sets up, or even if it hasn’t, they are ready to serve!

What To Serve With These Fritters

These fritters are incredible on their own, but sometimes desserts just need a little bit of extra sugar! So, these are my favorite things to serve alongside these ah-mazing fritters…

How To Store

If you have some leftover fritters, you can keep them in a lidded container and keep out on the counter for a day or so. You could also keep them in the fridge for 3-5 days, just remember to reheat them slightly in the microwave!

Substitutions

  • You can use a flax-egg or any other vegan egg replacement to make this recipe vegan!
  • Any apples work just fine.
  • Cinnamon can be used in place of apple pie spice.

Expert Tips

  • You should have no more than 2 inches of oil in your pan.
  • The oil shouldn’t exceed 350 degrees, as anything higher will cause the fritters to burn. Use a thermometer and watch those temps!
  • The fritters should always be flat! Anything thicker will just cause the middle to be underdone and the outside burnt.
  • Make sure your baking powder is in date.
  • Use clean vegetable oil!
  • We used about an 1/8 cup of batter to fry.
  • The fritters are not crispy.
