About The Recipe
Happy Friday and happy New Year’s Eve!
Gosh, can you believe it’s the last day of 2021? So much has happened this year! It’s flown by, but also time has crawled… does that make any sense? Well, I’m just excited to welcome in a new year! A new year means new opportunities, new recipes, and so much more!
We decided to end the year off on a strong note with this orange champagne cocktail! It’s a recipe that was given to our family decades ago. It’s considered a bartenders “perfect cocktail”, which we’d totally have to agree with! This drink is the perfect combination of brandy, orange liqueur, and champagne. Oh, and mixed with fresh squeezed orange juice! It’s SO delicious.
The recipe actually came from a bartender at the Ritz in Paris. Apparently, the bartender has been working there for over 40 years when this recipe was given to our family!
And, let me just say, they really knew what they were doing. This drink is utterly delicious.
And since it’s so special, we figured there was no better recipe to share as a New Year’s Eve cocktail! Every sip of this drink is fruity, perfectly sweet, fizzy, and SO. GOOD.

Why Are There No bitters in This Recipe?
For a champagne cocktail, it’s traditional to add bitters. For us, we personally don’t like it. It’s a specialty ingredient that just makes everything…well, bitter! It’s not to our taste, so we didn’t add it in.
Substitutions
- You can use store-bought orange juice rather than fresh. Omit sugar cube.
- If you don’t have brandy, you can use bourbon or dark rum. If rum is used, the drink may be a little more bitter.
- 1 teaspoon of simple syrup can be used in place.
- Blood orange can be used instead of a regular naval orange.
Expert Tips
- Do not make these drinks before you’re ready to serve. The champagne will go flat.
- We used a brut champagne for this recipe.
- One jigger is equal to 1 ½ ounces.
