If you like eggnog, then you are going to LOVE today’s recipe for our rich and moist eggnog pound cake! We’re taking a break from Christmas cookies and diving headfirst into this cake that I’ve been waiting over a year to share.
We’re combining the classic buttery pound cake, thick homemade eggnog (with the booze, of course! 😉), and a light dusting of powdered sugar to create a dessert that’s perfect for every holiday celebration!
Tips For The Perfect Pound Cake
When it comes to cakes, we are more than just experienced bakers, we have baked, tested, and shared hundreds of cake recipes on our blog. Pound cakes are almost always one of our most popular recipes (hello, lemon pound cake!🍋 ). Over the years, we’ve learned all of the do’s and don’ts. So, here are 4 of our top tips to making the perfect pound cake:
- Room Temperature Ingredients: This ensures smooth blending.
- Cream the Butter and Sugar: The more air you whip in, the lighter and fluffier your cake will be.
- Don’t Overmix: Mix just until combined. Overmixing can lead to a tough cake.
- Let it Cool: Patience is key! Let the cake cool completely before slicing.

Eggnog Pound Cake Ingredients
Traditionally, pound cakes don’t need a lot of ingredients; but the balance of those ingredients is what can make or break a good pound cake.
- An excess amount of moisture and the pound cake will be dense and wet.
- Too much flour and the pound cake be dry and crumbly.
- Too many eggs and the pound cake will taste eggy.
Here’s what we found works best: 2½ cups of flour, 1¼ cup of sugar, 1¼ cup of butter, and 5 large eggs. We promise that this yields a perfectly balanced, flavorful pound cake. Though, today, we are adding a generous amount of eggnog to give this cake an incredibly festive flavor!

How To Make This Eggnog Pound Cake
Like most cake recipes, we start by creaming the butter and sugar together. This step guarantees a tender crumb . Next, add the eggs, bourbon, and vanilla. Lastly, mix in the dry ingredients alternately with eggnog.
The cake batter is very thick, which is how you know you’ve got a perfectly dense pound cake on the way! If you use the same 10 cup bundt pan, this recipe should fill the pan about ⅔ – ¾ full.

If you don’t have a bundt pan, you can use a tube pan or 2 standard size loaf pans. So, no matter which pan you use, one thing’s for certain: this pound cake is rich with a tight, dense crumb that’s extremely buttery and moist, and full of sweet holiday flavor.
We have found the trick to any bundt cake, no matter which pan you use, is to REALLY grease the pan with a non-stick baking spray!

This cake was wonderful. Easy to make and very moist. I also used a Nordic ware Bundt pan and sprinkled with powdered sugar. I omitted the bourbon. I served some eggnog on the side if anyone wanted to drizzle some on the cake. Will make this again next year!
