About The Recipe

This is no secret. My mom and I love baking brownies! From classic brownies to brownies inspired by classic desserts (German Chocolate Brownies, anyone?). There is just something so delicious about a freshly baked brownie.

And, with the unofficial start to summer next Monday, we knew we wanted to share a new and delicious brownie recipe!

But we didn’t want to share just any ordinary brownie. This needed to be special and perfect for summer!

Which, is what lead us to making this skillet brownie. I mean, is there anything better than extra large desserts in in the summertime?

And this brownie is no exception! If you thought you loved brownies before, just wait until you try this. It’s honestly love at first bite! I seriously could’ve eaten this whole skillet by myself.

It’s rich, gooey, fudgy, and extra chocolate-y!

The perfect dessert to enjoy all year long!

Equipment Needed

Ingredients

Full ingredient amounts and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate – For this recipe you will need lots of chocolate! By using melted chocolate and chocolate chips in this recipe, it creates the ultimate chocolate-y flavor.
  • Unsalted Butter – Using melted butter in these brownies creates the rich and fudgy texture that equals the perfect brownie every time.
  • Large Eggs – Eggs add richness and moisture to the brownies, as well as acting as a binder and giving these brownies some much-needed lift, as there is no rising agent!
  • Granulated Sugar – Perfectly sweetens these brownies.
  • Vanilla Extract – A splash of vanilla rounds off the flavor in these brownies and really makes them taste SO GOOD!
  • All-Purpose Flour – Gives these brownies the perfect texture.
  • Dutch Process Cocoa Powder – Adds an extra depth of chocolate flavor!

How To Make a Skillet Brownie

Step 1: Prepare brownie batter

Combine chocolate and butter in microwave proof bowl. Microwave in 15 second increments, stirring well after each, until melted and smooth. Set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla.

Whisk in melted chocolate mixture.

Add flour and cocoa powder. Mix well.

Stir in chocolate chips.

Step 2: Bake

Pour into prepared skillet. Bake for 40 minutes, or until desired degree of doneness.

How To Tell When The Brownie is Perfectly Baked

We found that, with this recipe in particular, using a cake tester or toothpick is the best way to tell when the brownie is perfectly baked. After inserting the cake tester, it should still be a little damp with maybe one or two crumbs on it.

This means that the brownie is still fudge-y and moist, while being just barely baked!

Mix-In Ideas

While this recipe is absolutely delicious on it’s own (I mean, it IS triple chocolate!), it’s also fun to change things up and add some mix-ins. Here are a few of our favorite things to stir into a batch of brownies.

  • Chopped Nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds, or peanuts all taste delicious with this brownie!)
  • Chopped Oreos
  • Caramel Chunks
  • Peppermint Pieces
  • Chopped Candies (Snickers or Twix are our favs!)
  • Shredded Coconut
