These peanut butter bars give you the flavor of a peanut butter cup, but with the ease of muddy buddies! Oh, and the best part?
They’re Made From Just 6 Simple Ingredients!
This is all you need:
- Butter: Acts as the binder, just like it does in the filling for nutter butter cookies.
- Peanut Butter: You can’t have peanut butter bars without peanut butter! This goes into both layers and it’s essential to use a creamy peanut butter. Do not use a natural peanut butter for this recipe, as it will not set up.
- Vanilla: Because, why not?! 😉
- Powdered Sugar – Keeps everything together while adding some much-needed sweetness.
- Graham Cracker Crumbs: This is what gives these bars all of their structure. If you’re looking for a gluten-free treat, try using gluten-free graham crackers!
- Chocolate Chips: No peanut butter bar is complete without the rich, decadent chocolate topping.

Let’s Make Them
The first step is to melt the butter. So, in a large bowl, heat the butter and peanut butter until melted and smooth. Stir in vanilla, graham cracker crumbs, and powdered sugar. The mixture should be thick like dough! Press into a 9-inch square pan. Melt the remaining peanut butter with the chocolate chips. Then, pour on top of the peanut butter layer.
Chill in the refrigerator until set, then cut into squares. That’s it! Honestly, I think these bars are easier than rice krispie treats or even oatmeal raisin energy bites. So easy, so delicious.

How to Store Your Bars
For best results, store your Peanut Butter Bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to one week. While they can be enjoyed at room temperature, they are best served slightly chilled!Tips for Success
- Use creamy peanut butter: This will create a smoother texture. Natural peanut butter will not work in this recipe.
- Press the base firmly: Ensuring a well-packed base is imperative for recipe success! If there are air bubbles in the base or its not packed down well, it may crumble apart when you try to cut it.
- Let the bars set completely: This will help them hold their shape when cutting!
- Use a sharp knife: For clean cuts, use a knife that’s been warmed slightly with hot water. Wipe after each cut!
- Get creative: Add mix-ins like chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or sea salt for extra flavor and texture.
- Don’t have unsalted butter?: No problem! Use salted butter instead and balance the flavor by adding a tiny pinch (about 3/16 teaspoon) of salt to the recipe.
-
No graham cracker crumbs?: 1½ packs of graham crackers equal about 2 cups of crumbs!
